What to Ask Before a Dashboard Engagement
A short checklist for operations leaders who want asset utilization views that match how their equipment actually moves across Thai job sites.
Before inviting consultants to build an asset utilization dashboard, decide who will live with the weekly numbers. If the answer is “everyone and no one,” the engagement will stall after the first pretty chart. Name an operations owner and a deputy who can settle definition disputes.
List the decisions the view must support. Typical ones include which machines to transfer next month, which sites burn idle hours, and which rented units should go back early. If a question cannot be answered from the planned fields, cut the field.
Gather sample data for two ordinary weeks — not the cleanest weeks. Include rain delays, festival-shortened shifts, and a machine that sat waiting for parts. Real messes reveal whether your sources can feed a durable utilization picture.
Ask vendors and consultants how they handle definition drift. Utilization language changes when a new site manager arrives. A short change log and a quarterly definition review keep the dashboard from becoming a museum of old arguments.
